Alumni

We are always very interested to hear what any 'old' Alvey pupils have gone on to do in their personal or professional lives. You are welcome to send in a few sentences (or pages) and we will happily add it to the website; to start things off we will add all responses in the order that they come in but depending on the number of responses, we might then sort them out according to date of attendance. We would like to hear from anyone who attended the school whatever you have gone on to do. Thank you.

Amanda Slater (nee Thorpe): I attended the William Alvey Junior School (as it was then) from 1986 to 1990. I went onto KSHS and then Hull University, where I read Biomedical Sciences, and then trained to be a chartered accountant specialising in tax. I’ve worked in accountancy practice with one of the “Big Four” in Cambridge, and then worked for the NHS as the practice accountant at Sleaford Medical Group, before moving to Ascot, Berkshire (near the racecourse!) eleven years ago, where I work for Capgemini, the IT Consultancy, firstly as head of taxation and now as a Finance Director. I’m married to Mark, and have one daughter, Imogen, who is 6. I still return to Sleaford often to visit my family and attend Lincoln City FC matches, where I still have season ticket, just as I did as an Alvey pupil all those years ago! I’m also actively involved in the Red Imps Community Trust so still have close ties with the area. I fondly remember my days at the Alvey and my wonderful class teachers, Mrs Ganny, Mrs Parker, Mr Thornton and Mrs Munks. 30.7.19

Ryan Frost I joined as a Year 3 in 1999 - back when it was just a junior school - and left at the end of year 6, having been a ‘buddy’ to the first ever Reception intake. I then went on to Carre’s Grammar before studying to be a primary school teacher - inspired greatly by the staff during my time at the Alvey. I am now teaching in the local area, and it is nice to still visit the school every so often for the occasional sporting event. 30.7.19

Oliver Tucker (left Y6 in September 18) received a bronze medal in the national mini double trampoline championship.30.7.19

Charles Edward Tasker attended the school between 1897 and 1902. Not one of the 72 fallen. Charles is the Great Grandad of one of our pupils (Catie) who left our Y6 in July 2019.  You can see his name in one of our old school registers. We also have a photo of him in the Alvey archives. 30.7.19

Miss Evelyn Stanyon worked at the school for over 50 years, as a pupil in 1906 and as a teacher until 1961. We have some photographs of her in our Alvey archive. 30.7.19

Clemmie Brooks I love this, my Grandad went to the Alvey, and I'm always discovering new alumni, my sons love the history of it. 30.7.19

Claudia Nel Fantastic . A few weeks ago I told our 10 year old that she would soon be an Alvey ‘ old girl ‘ - not quite sure what she made of it . Our piano teacher is 85 & an old girl, I will let her know about the Alumni record. 30.7.19

Amanda Dakin How lovely! I had some happy times there with some lovely teachers who inspired me to become one. It also fostered my love of music & my days playing with Mr Such's folk group & singing with Mr Thornton's choir are among my favourite memories. 30.7.19

Nicola Marriott (nee Cock) I have just seen your post about ex pupils, I went to the alvey school and was a lead in the school musical, it was called 'good heavens above' Mrs Brewster was the teacher that wrote it.  I must have been in year 5 or 6 which would make it about 25 years ago. Do you know if a copy of this musical would have been kept at the school? I would love to be able to show it to my children that are at the alvey now. 30.7.19

Lucy Fathers started at the Alvey in October 1874 (born 18th October 1871). She became a Nursing Sister, in the Army Nursing Service. Unfortunately, she died of dysentery at Grey's Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa  6th May 1900.  Fr. Philip says she could be the only women ever to be named on a Boer War (11th October 1899-31st May 1902)  memorial in this country? 30.7.19
