Mount Pleasant, Duke Street and The Workhouse

Really interesting walk with Simon Pawley this morning (Navigation House to Cogglesford). Found out about the art school in (Marma) Duke Street (1870's to 1914ish). Edwin Dibben's School in Mount Pleasant, directly in competition with Carre's (they taught accountancy at Dibben's rather than Latin which was a must at a grammar school) and more recently the private school in the same location, where the pupils were known as 'Bluebottles'. Was this because some part of their uniform was blue? It would also appear that there was some sort of educational/scholastic element at the Workhouse, to the East of the school. All overlapping with the establishment and functioning of William Alvey in its present location in 1851
