Old School

Miss Evelyn Stanyon became a pupil at the William Alvey on 23rd April 1906. You can see her name in the school register (first photo). She started training as a teacher whilst she was at the school. We have a photo of her  in the 1920’s with her class of some 22 boys and girls (had a child moved and blurred numbers?), sitting in their old-fashioned wood and iron double-desks. Miss Stanyon had a connection with the school for over 50 years, we think this is a photo of her receiving a 50 year 'service' award. She retired in 1961.
