Early Years Vision

We offer a joyful place to learn where curiosity, independence and resilience are nurtured.  Our ethos for our youngest learners is built on the philosophy of ‘planting seeds that one day will grow’.

We have a child-centred approach, in which every child is valued and challenged. Our aim is to give the children first-hand experiences that will enable them to become resilient, respectful, tolerant and aspirational learners.

The Prime Areas (Communication and Language, Physical Development and PSED) underpin everything. We believe that oracy is the foundation of learning, empowering every child to find their voice, express their ideas, build relationships and develop the confidence to communicate with others. All staff use the ShREC Approach.

Share attention – Turn to what the child is focused on and engage at their level.

Respond – Acknowledge verbal and non-verbal communication.

Expand – Repeat what the child says and build on it with words or concepts.

Conversation – Sustained back-and-forth interactions that give the child time to listen and reply.

We balance play-based learning with adult-led provision, with Phonics, Literacy and Maths sessions in the mornings. We also want our children to develop a love of outdoor learning and to recognise how we care and look after local and global environments, making a difference now and for future generations.

Throughout their time in EYFS, our children will develop a sense of belonging within the wider school community and recognise the values the children, families and staff embrace at William Alvey.
