At William Alvey, we believe that education is about much more than what happens in the classroom. Our enrichment programme gives every child opportunities to discover new interests, develop confidence and resilience, build friendships, develop life skills and make a positive difference to their community.

Our enrichment offer is closely linked to our school values of Realising Potential, Developing Character, Working Together and Serving Others, helping children to flourish and ‘live life in all its fullness’.

Something for everyone

Throughout the year, children enjoy a broad range of experiences across five key areas:

• Civic engagement – school council, courageous advocacy, fundraising, volunteering and opportunities to contribute to our local community.

• Arts and culture – specialist dance and music teaching, creative workshops, visits to museums and galleries, performances and opportunities to experience live theatre.

• Nature, outdoors and adventure – Forest Club, Eco Club, sustainability projects, outdoor learning, sleepovers and residential experiences.

• Sport and physical activity – football, athletics, cricket, netball, hockey, mixed sports, dance and opportunities to represent the school in competitions.

• Life and future skills – computing and coding, robotics, science, cooking, financial education, online safety, leadership and other practical skills.

Children also have access to a wide variety of free lunchtime and after-school clubs, with opportunities ranging from chess, art and Lego to our choirs, football, athletics, cricket and netball.

Experiences that inspire

We work with a wide range of local organisations and specialists to bring experiences into school and take learning beyond the classroom. Our partnerships have included The Hub, Sleaford Museum, Sleaford Town Council, Hill Holt Wood, Lincolnshire Music Service, local care homes and the Rotary Club, alongside many others.

Children also enjoy regular educational visits, including trips to museums, historical sites, nature reserves, the coast and adventure centres. These experiences help children connect their learning to the wider world and create memorable experiences that they can share and build upon.

Building confidence, character and wellbeing

Enrichment is an important part of our approach to developing the whole child. Through Growth Mindset activities, leadership opportunities, teamwork, outdoor challenges, creative experiences and community projects, children are encouraged to take on new challenges, persevere and discover what they are capable of.

We also place a strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing. Our wellbeing provision includes Wellbeing Champions, wellbeing activities, pastoral support and additional targeted support where children need it.

Every child included

We want every child to benefit from enrichment, regardless of their circumstances or individual needs. Many workshops take place during the school day and are free of charge, while trips are subsidised where needed. We also work to ensure that all children can access important experiences such as the Year 6 residential. We monitor participation and follow up where we identify children who may be missing out.

Children have a voice

Our children are active participants in shaping enrichment at the William Alvey. Through pupil voice, the School Council, Eco Club and other leadership roles, they can suggest ideas, organise activities and take responsibility for projects. Children are also encouraged to lead Collective Worship and share experiences that have inspired them.

We celebrate children's participation and achievements through assemblies, certificates, awards, reports and our popular ‘Trophy Tuesday’, which celebrates achievements both in and outside school.

Growing and improving

Our enrichment programme is continually reviewed using feedback from children, parents and staff, alongside participation and outcome data. This helps us to identify what works well and where we can develop our offer further.
