Year 1
Welcome to Year 1!
Year One is a very exciting place to be.
We ask questions, we investigate, we predict and enquire, and we learn.
Year One is an important year as the children move from the EYFS curriculum towards the National Curriculum. This transition is carefully managed to ensure that all the children move smoothly into this next phase of learning.
In Year One we build on the excellent foundations laid by our Reception team. Phonics, reading, mathematical fluency and understanding of number, remain at the forefront of all that we do. Making meaningful connections between new and prior knowledge, and developing the children's love of learning is embedded in our curriculum.
In Year One we love reading and we follow the Rocket Phonics scheme. Our home reading books are carefully matched to the level of each child so they can secure the sounds that they have been practising at school when reading at home with their family members. We extend the children's comprehension through 'Talk for Reading' sessions in the classroom.
Learning is fun in Year One, and we have developed topics that engage and stimulate the children. Our topics listed below are really as exciting as they sound!
